Samuel “Sam” Holm

Financial Advisor

Cody, WY

I’m the son of a teacher, and learned to build up, not break down. My work is a choice to help make things better, not worse–and as a result, my value is to build, not break.

Sam has been navigating landscapes his whole life by living, camping, and hunting among the Big Horn Mountains. He’s been fly fishing in the streams that flow through them, carefully choosing his flies to reflect current conditions.

All this is a living metaphor for the way Sam works with clients: survey the big picture, pick a destination, plan a path, then address the details needed for a fulfilling adventure.

In addition to spending the past 10 years as a registered representative with a major life insurance firm, Sam’s resumé is packed with adventure and a variety of experiences that help him relate to clients from all walks and stages of life as their Vantage Point Financial Advisor.

Sam’s early lessons included, “Earn what you want, be kind, and take a chance.” And he has taken many chances to learn and grow along the way. To name a few: he developed the discipline to become a Sitka pro athlete, acquired the the know-how to be a cook, mechanic, roofer, and builder, and combined his technical and people skills as a basketball coach and referee.

Growing up in a “largish” family with three brothers in Gillette, Wyoming cemented Sam’s love of small town living: “You don’t know what you’re missing if you don’t know what it is.” He was and remains influenced by his parents, who shaped and model his core values, his aunt Kary, who encouraged his mischievous sense of humor, and the great basketball coach, John Wooden.

After high school, Sam attended Crown College, where he earned degrees in Business Administration and Bible History. Staying true to his adventurous roots, he spent summers working as a fly-fishing guide, and also as a guide in the Boundary Waters Canoe Area (BWCA) of Minnesota.

Sam now calls Cody, Wyoming home, along with his wife, Brianna, and young daughter Ellis. He notes that it’s the rodeo capital of the world, which gave him the opportunity “once and only once” to be a rodeo bullfighter. He gladly traded his spurs for books, household projects, and always, fly fishing. Sam shares that he loves reading to Ellis, even when she asks him to read her favorite book over and over.

Speaking from his Vantage Point Wyoming outpost, Sam is proud that “I’m the only one on the team who deals with grizzly bears on a regular basis, where we have something that cities don’t have like open spaces and barren land. Here I bring a viewpoint that offers a chance to breathe, see the sunrise, and when a day changes, the understanding that the world doesn’t move as much as we think it does.”
